In his newly released track, “Too Sweet,” Hozier takes his whiskey neat, his coffee black and his songs at the top of the charts.
Andrew Hozier-Byrne, known better by his stage name, Hozier, is a 34-year-old Irish musician who’s had his first chart-topping hit in his decade-long career.
“Too Sweet,” a track off his latest EP, “Unheard,” secured first place on the Billboard Hot 100 chart during the week of April 21.
“It means the world that you're enjoying this song so much,” the artist wrote on X acknowledging his achievement. “Thank you all.”
Hozier released his debut EP, “Take Me to Church,” ahead of his self-titled album in 2014. The title track on the EP made it as far as second place on the Billboard Hot 100, according to Billboard.
“Unheard” released on March 22, consisting of four unreleased songs from his 2023 album “Unreal Unearth,” which Hozier has been touring since its release.
About a month after dropping the EP, the artist saw his song on the charts once more. He also became the first Irish music artist since 1990 to have a song at No. 1, almost exactly 34 years after Sinead O’Connor’s “Nothing Compares 2 U” held first place for four weeks, according to Billboard.
A few other tracks of his have made it to the top 100, but the highest ranking Hozier hit prior was No. 37 on the charts with “Northern Attitude Ft. Hozier,” a collaboration with Noah Kahan.
With this feat, “Hozier ended the longest wait between top 10s since The Beatles,” according to Billboard.
His song has been faring well internationally as well.
“Too Sweet” also hit No. 1 in Australia’s, New Zealand’s, Canada’s, the UK’s and Ireland’s charts, according to Billboard.
“It’s absolutely staggering,” Hozier said in his post. “I’m taken massively by surprise by it.”
